Community Language & Culture

About Us

With the dissolution of the Witsuwit'en Language & Culture Society (WLCS) in 2023. Kyah Wiget Education Society (KWES) has picked up its likeness with the creation of the community Language & Culture (CLC) department. Some Primary Goals of CLC are:

*To provide opportunities for learning, practicing, and teaching the Witsuwit'en language and culture to encourage the passing of knowledge to the next generations to come.

*To focus on the traditional wellness of the community members, as it is a key component of language and culture resiliency.

The number of Witsuwit'en fluent speakers is dwindling and sitting at an estimated 4% in a recent count in CLC's Witsuwit'en Immersion Program in 2023.

CLC is dedicated to providing efforts toward Witsuwit'en languages and culture revitalization and community resiliency.
