Witset Early Years Family Liaison
Strong children, supported families, and connected communities—working together to ensure every child has a healthy start and a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
Back Ground
The Wit’suwit’en Child and Family Centre identified a need for additional support to help families access essential health, developmental, and educational services during the early years. In response, the Indigenous Early Years Liaison Worker position was created to support children ages 0–6 and their families.
Guided by our mission of building healthier families for a healthier tomorrow, this role supports families through collaboration, advocacy, and culturally respectful connections to services that promote healthy development and well-being.

Values
Our work is guided by respect for Indigenous Peoples, cultures, and ways of knowing, and grounded in strong, trusting relationships with children, families, and communities. We are committed to cultural safety and belonging, creating welcoming spaces that honour identity and challenge systemic barriers. Through ongoing reflection, learning, and accountability, we strive to grow and strengthen our support for Indigenous families.
Transportation Support
Transportation support is available for families who do not have access to a vehicle. This includes assistance getting to and from medical appointments, early learning programs, school meetings, community services, and other essential supports. Similar to community-based outreach models such as CCRR, this service helps reduce barriers, improve access to care, and ensure families can participate fully in programs that support their child’s health, development, and education. Transportation support is coordinated in collaboration with families and community partners, based on availability and need.
Working Closely with Families and Community Partners
We work in partnership with Wet’suwet’en supported services, including WFCF, ANABIP, the Health Centre, Family Services and the Band Office, to strengthen coordinated and responsive support for families. In collaboration with the Health Centre, upcoming and proposed initiatives include bi-weekly Grief and Loss sessions, a weekly Elders Drop-In, and a weekly Family Walk in the Multiplex Gym. Ongoing discussions are also underway for a community drop-in cooking program and/or traditional land-based outings, a bi-weekly diabetes learning and cooking education program, and Moms and Dads sharing circles that combine cooking and educational supports. Please follow the Witset Health Centre for more information
Organizations Outside Our Community
We collaborate with organizations outside our community, including the Northwest Child Development Centre, Child Care Resource & Referral Program, Pregnancy Outreach Program, Thomas Robinson Consulting Ltd., and working with MCFD and families as needed, to ensure families are supported through coordinated, early, and responsive services. By connecting families to the resources and expertise already in place, we help promote healthy child development, strengthen family capacity, and support positive long-term outcomes for children and caregivers.
